In an effort to upstage Mike Pence’s previous performance, Bobby Jindal puts on the eyeliner and lets the tears flow:
On a call with reporters, Jindal said that the decision to uphold the healthcare law as a tax is a “blow to our freedoms.”
"What’s next?" he said, expressing concern for people who "refuse to eat tofu" or "refuse to drive a Chevy Volt" — a popular hybrid car.
No, I’m sure he doesn’t actually think “real God-fearin’ Americans” will be forced to consume bland blocks of soy milk curd and trade in their F-350 XL King Shit Brickhouse Edition pickup trucks for laughable facsimiles of a certain successful Japanese hybrid, shortly before being herded onto cattle cars headed to FEMA death camps carved out of the wild Detroit wilderness. Nah, he’s just putting on for this constituency. I hope.
While U.S. Republicans are desperately searching for ways to legislate vaginae out of existence, the Cologne region of Germany put the brakes on male circumcision, thereby vexing both Jewish and Muslim practitioners:
Jewish and Muslim groups protested on Wednesday after a German court banned the circumcision of young boys for religious reasons, Reuters reported. The ban applies to the Cologne region of Germany.
The court in the western city of Cologne handed down the decision on Tuesday in the case of a doctor who was prosecuted for circumcising a four-year-old Muslim boy.
The doctor circumcised the boy in November 2010 and gave him four stitches, the Guardian reported. When the boy started bleeding two days later, his parents took him to Cologne’s University hospital, where officials called police. The doctor was ultimately acquitted on the grounds that he had not broken a law.
According to the court ruling, “the fundamental right of the child to bodily integrity outweighs the fundamental rights of the parents.”
If your logical argument to justify your racism only works in conversations about racism, you are just a racist. There is this invisible list that every racist seems to pull from. It’s the racist logic list. The most amazing thing about this list isn’t that…
Jalopnik, of all places, turned me on to a Twitter slapfight between Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh and Automotive News intern Josh Sidorowicz over a Detroit News op-ed piece attacking Pugh over his near-evangelical promotion of the dieting tips that helped him lose 60 pounds.
If there’s anyone’s ass Pugh should be putting his foot in, it’s Laura Berman, the author of the op-ed, and not some intern who merely put his two cents in when he, as a representative of Automotive News, should had refrained from comment or at least retweeted the story as neutrally as possible.*
Also, we have people wondering why this Detroit city official has time to get his own life together, yet can’t get the affairs of the city straight. The comments here range from genuine concern to shell-tossing in the peanut gallery.
*Yes, I know it was his personal account. Nevertheless, he should consider how his personal actions would reflect on the company if they were to be linked somehow, as they are now.
A new report shows that pregnancy rates for women in their early 20s are down 18 percent and abortion rates for said age group are down 32 percent, from 1990 to 2008. Now, is it because:
a) Young women are better informed of and have greater access to birth control. b) GOP-led efforts to curtailing abortion and free access to birth control are causing women to reconsider and curtail their sexual activity. c) Those abstinence-only programs are actually working.
According to the report, all indications are pointing to “a”. Anyone who answered “c” should take a look at this report.
"Why’d you favor foreigners over Americans?" Munro shouted.
"Excuse me, sir, but it’s not time for questions," Obama responded.
"Are you going to take questions?" Munro asked.
"Not while I’m speaking." Obama said.
I’m not surprised someone would show a complete lack of etiquette and respect to the President. After all, “The negro has no rights which the white man is bound to respect,” even when that negro is the President of the United States.
Remember those wacky klansmen who wanted to own their very own piece of Georgia highway? Well, they have to find something else to put their name on. GDOT gave their Adopt-A-Mile application the thumbs down:
Transportation Department officials met with lawyers from the state Attorney General’s Office on Monday and also consulted with Gov. Nathan Deal. The agency said Tuesday it would deny the KKK group’s application, adding that the program is aimed at “civic-minded organizations in good standing.”
"Participation in the program should not detract from its worthwhile purpose," the department’s statement reads. "Promoting an organization with a history of inciting civil disturbance and social unrest would present a grave concern to the department. Issuing this permit would have the potential to negatively impact the quality of life, commerce and economic development of Union County and all of Georgia."
The statement went on to explain that motorists who drive past signs promoting the KKK or who see members picking up trash could be distracted — creating a safety issue — and that the section of highway the group wanted to adopt is ineligible because of its 55 mph speed limit.
Ouch, fellers. Not that I could summon up much sympathy for these guys. It remains to be seen whether they’ll act on their threat to sue the state after having their application turned down.
If you haven’t heard, not only was George Zimmerman’s bond denied, but his wife was also hit with a perjury charge. Turns out shifting your hubby’s funds to your account so he can make his bond is a pretty dumb idea:
Authorities say the wife of Trayvon Martin’s shooter is being accused of lying to a judge about their finances during his bond hearing and faces one count of perjury.
An order issued Tuesday by assistant state attorney John Guy charged Shellie Zimmerman for knowingly making false statements during the April hearing. George Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting. He was granted $150,000 bond at that hearing and released.
The judge revoked that bond earlier this month after state attorneys argued that both Zimmerman and his wife had lied to the judge about their finances, especially about money raised from a website. George Zimmerman is back in jail.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Israeli daily Maariv published an interview with Interior Minister Eli Yishai, in which he stated that most of the “Muslims that arrive here do not even believe that this country belongs to us, to the white man.”
"I will continue the struggle until the end of my term, with no compramises," Yishai continued, stating that he would use "all the tools to expel the foreigners, until not one infiltrator remains."
If the events surrounding Israel’s push against African immigrants isn’t a clear indication that these folks have gone around the bend, then read the above. Also, the country’s now detaining these immigrants for upwards to three years:
A law granting Israeli authorities the power to detain illegal migrants for up to three years came into effect on Sunday, in the wake of widening public controversy over the influx of African migrants who cross into Israel along its border with Egypt.
The law makes illegal migrants and asylum seekers liable to jail, without trial or deportation, if caught staying in Israel for long periods. In addition, anyone helping migrants or providing them with shelter could face prison sentences of between five and 15 years.
The law amended the Prevention of Infiltration Law of 1954, passed to prevent the entry of Palestinians as part of emergency legislation. The law is expanded to address migrant workers or asylum seekers who enter Israel without posing a threat to Israel’s security.
If this keeps up, I see some seriously ugly things on the horizon for anyone not of specifically Israeli extraction.
The $250 million proposal, circulated by the Nashville-based Corrections Corporation of America to prison officials in 48 states, has been blasted by some state officials who suggest such a program could pressure criminal justice officials to seek harsher sentences to maintain the contractually required occupancy rates.
Looks like we’re hurling headlong into a new age of peonage. Not to insure a steady flow of damn-near-free convict labor, but to keep private prisons full.
